The tufas of Mono Lake. They rise out of the water as though reaching for the Sierra sky. The reality is that dozens of years ago they were under water growing year by year. Some years down the road, depending on whether the California drought or the restrictions on the LA water usage win out, they could likely disappear beneath the surface where they might once again grow.
